Long time no say
It has been a very very long time since my last post… The way things are going it will be a long time before my next post…
The job is going very well. I have 3 projects lined up to be finished before the end of the year. I made the decision that the part-time guy that is here from 8-1 every day should move into my cubicle.
I know, that’s really weird of me to request that someone else move into my cubicle with me. The reason I did is because we both basically do the same thing. But right now he is on the other side of the office (admittidly, this means he is 20 feet away). But he never knows what I am doing, and I never know what he is doing. We sometimes end up working on the same thing, and always when one of us asks the other (he ussually asks me) for help, we have to catch the other one up on what exactly is going on. Also, my boss never knows who to bring problems to, and ussually goes to him since I am so busy, and then after he works on it for a while, he comes to me since he can’t do it, and it doesn’t take that long to fix.
This way, both of us will always know what projects the other one is working on, and when my boss needs something done, they can just come in my cubicle and make the request, and we can talk about who is going to do it, and since two heads are better than one, our combined knowledge will get it done quicker, and there will be no “bringing into the loop” happening.
Also, he can assist me with the three projects that I have going on right now.
Another goal with this is to help him to actually learn JSP, and break him of the use of his Graphical User Interface editor that he has been using, that is very very much holding him back. He spends 70% of his time trying to learn “the tool” and struggling against “the tool”, when instead he could spend 100% of his time learning JSP and struggling against JSP. While it will be harder at the beginning, at least he will be learning something other than how to use some tool. He will be learning how to actually program, and write good code. He will know how to do everything from start to finish, and be able to do it using any text editor, instead of being locked into his “tool”. I know this probably makes him nervous to get away from his tool, but in the end, I think he will be glad.
On beyond that, I have discovered Dave Ramsey. He’s really great. He is on the radio every day, and I have stopped listening to Rush, and now listen to him. He is very Christian, and very smart, and he is all about money, and getting out of debt. He has changed the way that Julie and I look at money, and debt, and we now have a two year plan to get out of debt (minus the house), and a 15 year plan to be completely debt free, with nice savings/retirement built up.
You should check him out. You can get a free 7 day trial subscription to his website that will allow you to download his 3 hour program commercial free. But you can catch him on the radio, or stream him live every day for free. Try the reality check on the right side of the page. When I did, it said that at my current rate of savings, I would end up being able to retire with 1 million dollars (yay! or so I thought). But on his plan, I would retire with 26 million. That sounds good to me… I’m sure that is probably just a gimick, and not completely accurate. I doubt it takes into account the children I will have, or that Julie is quitting her job when we have kids, or anything like that. But when I signed up for the seven day free trial, and got to baby step 2, I did find that I could pay all of my debt off in the next two years if I follow his plan, rather than it taking like 10 or 15 years which I originally thought it would.
His program is great, especially on fridays when you get to hear all of the people who have followed his plan call in and tell their story about how they became debt free. Very motivational, and for someone who is in alot of debt, it gives you something you probably haven’t had for a while. Hope. Hope of getting out of debt, and making your money work for you, instead of you working for your money. Check it out, it will change your life.
