Future 0.1

Friday, October 28th, 2005

I have begun work on my future website. I was a little over-eager and practically skipped the planning stage, so I hope I didn’t forget to leave room for any links or anything…

The Sketch… -COMPLETE-

The Illustrator Version… -COMPLETE-

The Flash Incarnation… -WORK IN PROGRESS- (beware, the sound is hideous. Turn down your volume (cause the mute button isn’t very effective yet… sorry Jason…)

Feel free to comment and critique… thanks.

Mom… Dad… I’m Gaelic…

Man my jokes are bad…

I should probably change the name of my blog to “Just another random thought that came to me while I was bored infront of my computer”

So last night I found out that the spelling of the name McCulloh that my family uses is the Gaelic version (Welsh/Scottish), while the McCullough variants are Irish. Cool. I always liked the idea of being “scottish” better. Not that I am scottish. I guess I’m more scottish that turkish or chinese, but I’m also American Indian, mixed with probably everything else somewhere here or there. Well… maybe not spanish or asian or african or middle eastern… but I guess you never know. Maybe way back when I had a great great grand-daddy (insert bush language name here) hunting elephants on safari…

Anyways… so, yeah. I’m Gaelic. Yay.

“FREEEEEDOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!……”

My First Flash Web Page

Tuesday, October 18th, 2005

Check it out! It’s my first flash web page.

The more I do, the more I like flash. I’m glad I’m in two flash classes this semester. Before now flash has always seemed like this magically way of creating web-pages that you had to be a born wizard to master. But now, it’s actually easier than html. Mostly because there is very little coding, and you can draw a picture in Illustrator, and just convert it into a flash webpage in very short time. This was the quickest, most stylized web-page I have ever created…

Proof

Adobe PDFs are living hellish proof that people will use ANYTHING, no matter how aggravatingly horribly slow/inconvenient/annoying/stupid it is, if they think that that is what they are supposed to be using.

90% of the things that are .pdf documents on the web should be either html or XML documents. Or even just rtfs.

Just about EVERY document creator can create an html or XML version of your file just as easily if not more easily than creating a .pdf.

WHY DO MY SUPPOSED “COMPUTER” INSTRUCTORS INSIST ON MAKING SIMPLE TEXT DOCUMENT ASSIGNMENTS PDFs? Do they really think my one joy in life is waiting almost a full minute for the stupid adobe .pdf reader to open? If I wanted to do that I would just open and close Illustrator and Photoshop simultaneously over and over again crashing my computer multiple times in the process!

I shouldn’t need top of the line ram to quickly find out when my next assignment is due and what it is. It’s bad enough with cable modem and 512mb ram… I can’t imagine what it would be like on a truly “old” computer and dial up…

pdf was cool three years ago when no document writer could read another one, and creating html documents was something only “programmers” could do easily… Now, unless you have a highly stylized document (newsletter, newspaper, flier -NOT A CLASS ASSIGNMENT!!!!!) you should just put up an html file, an rtf, or an XML file.

…yeah…
